biography

Jürg Siegrist received his first musical training in the boys' choir in Basel. At a young age he came into contact with many masterpieces of choral literature and worked as 1.

Boy at the Stadttheater Basel in the "Magic Flute" by WA Mozart. After high school (type B; Latin), Jürg Siegrist studied piano with Rolf Mäser at the Basel Conservatory and was

regular director of the youth singing camp "Caprino" in Caprino on Lake Lugano. The piano teaching diploma was followed by majoring in choral conducting with Raphael Immoos in Basel. During this time he founded the youth choir "let's sing" in his home town of Muttenz, which quickly became a popular institution.

Jürg Siegrist then conducted the Munzach Chamber Choir in Frenkendorf and the Voixlà Chamber Choir for 15 years, was deputy conductor of the Basel Boys’ Choir for many years and sang as a tenor in various professional and semi-professional vocal ensembles (Anton Webern Choir, Freiburg; Vocapella, Basel; Chamber Choir of the Basel Music Academy ; Knabenkantorei Basel, Chamber Choir Nota Bene, Basel, Capella Nova, Basel...)

In addition, he has had a teaching position at the Gymnasium Muttenz for many years for the subject music

and directs the "singstimmen baselland" (formerly the teachers' singing association Baselland). Since it was founded, he has also been the director of the chamber choir of the Muttenz high school, with which he has taken part in numerous choir festivals (Swiss Children's and Youth Choir Festival, European Youth Choir Festival, Usedom Youth Chamber Choir Meeting).

Recently he has also been writing his own choral pieces and arrangements. His pieces have been performed at major choral festivals (Europa Cantat, Choralies, European Youth Choir Festival) throughout Europe. Jürg Siegrist can regularly be found as an expert at singing competitions throughout Switzerland. At the beginning of 2019, Jürg Siegrist founded the youth choir of both Basels with younger colleagues from the choral scene and at the same time became musical director of the choir association of both Basels. In the same year, he and his colleagues received the Canton of Baselland's Jubilee Culture Prize for his work as choir director at the Muttenz Gymnasium. Recently, Jürg Siegrist has been involved in the project "Culture Church Paulus" for a stronger networking of the choral scene.
